Gamestop is currently auctioning the notorious Tacker, which damaged several consoles during the Nintendo Switch 2 sales start on June fifth June 2025. The incident occurred in a Gamestop branch on Staten Island in New York, where an overzealous employee of cash receipts directly on the packaging of the Nintendo Switch 2. What the employee did not consider: the brackets not only penetrated the thin cardboard, but also damaged the screens below the 470 euro consoles.

The affected customers immediately received replacement devices, but the story spread in the gaming community and became known as “Staplegate”.

Learning from mistakes and doing good

Instead of covering up the incident, Gamestop decided to deal with the mishap. The company started the “Gamestop 2025 Staplegate Charity Action” on ebay on July 9th. The auction package contains four historical objects: the black tacker itself, the first damaged (now repaired) Nintendo Switch 2 console with the serial number HAW50270415462, the original packaging with a visible clip impact and the curved stake, which is kept in a special container.

The full proceeds of the auction will benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, a non -profit organization that supports children’s hospitals in North America. “While the incident itself was regrettable, we hope that his legacy serves a greater purpose,” Gamestop explains in the description of the auction.

CEO promise causes a sensation

The auction has attracted attention not only because of the unusual object. Gamestop CEO Ryan Cohen caused an additional sensation with a remarkable promise On the platform X: “When the auction becomes six digits, I will add my underwear.” He now seems to have to redeem this promise because the bids have already exceeded the $ 100,000 mark.

The auction runs until July 16 at 12:51 p.m. Eastern Time (6:51 p.m. German time). In addition to the four collector’s pieces, the winner also receives a certificate of authenticity, signed by CEO Ryan Cohen himself.
