All About February Patch Day For Windows 10 and Windows 11

Microsoft has just released the updates for Patch Day in February 2023, bringing its Windows 11 and Windows 10 operating systems up to date. The updates focus on eliminating security problems.

For the second time this year, updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10 are finding their way to users. While Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 were finally excluded from the cycle in January, users of Windows 10 (21H1, 21H2, and 22H2) and Windows 11 (21H2 and 22H2) will of course have the usual update again in February. One thing is similar to last month’s patch day: the scope of the changes is manageable.

Microsoft emphatically points out that as of today they are also pushing ahead with saying goodbye to Internet Explorer. In certain Windows 10 versions, the no longer supported desktop application of Internet Explorer 11 is thus permanently deactivated. There is a fitting retirement FAQ at the end.

Windows 11 versions for patch day February 2023

For Windows 11, Microsoft is providing the updates KB5022845 (22H2) and KB5022836 (21H2) on patch day in February 2023, the build numbers are climbing to 22621.1265 and 22000.1574 respectively. The only point they mention in the support article under Highlights: “This update fixes security issues”.

Windows 10 versions for patch day February 2023

With patch KB5022834, Microsoft brings its current Windows 10 versions to build number 1904x.2604. Here, too, one only speaks of a security update, without major functional adjustments. For the older Windows 10 versions from 2015, 2016, and 2018, there are sometimes significantly more entries about changes in the knowledge base. This includes, among other things, many fixed problems with the IE mode of the Edge browser.
