Apple iPhone 12 Pro To Come With 120Hz Display, 3x Zoom And LiDAR Scanners

iPhone 12 Pro

According to current rumors, Apple is working on a new ProMotion display that will be used at 120Hz in the upcoming iPhone 12 Pro. There is also talk of improved face ID sensors, LiDAR scanners, and a 3x zoom in new iOS smartphones.

After Apple introduced its cheapest smartphone to date with the iPhone SE 2020, the rumor mill focuses on the upcoming launch of the iPhone 12 Pro. Among other things, the most well-informed XDA Developers reporter Max Weinbach gives his forecast for the equipment of the next iPhone generation in a YouTube video of the EverythingApplePro channel. If you trust Weinbach, the new pro model from the US manufacturer could have an OLED display with a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz for the first time.

Larger battery, compact Notch and LiDAR scanner expected

The expected 6.1 and 6.7 inches iPhone 12 Pro smartphones would not only be based on the current design of the current iPad Pro but also in terms of functionality. Weinbach also expects an enlarged 4400mAh battery to compensate for the higher power consumption of the new ProMotion display in combination with an expected 5G module. Furthermore, a dynamic change between 60Hz and 120Hz should ensure that the battery life of the Apple iPhone 12 Pro (Max) does not differ from that of the current iPhone 11 Pro and, ideally, can even be extended. Possible new camera options are also discussed.

For example, the iPhone 12 Pro could inherit the LiDAR scanner for depth information from the iPad Pro 2020 and thus strengthen the autofocus, portrait photos, and AR apps. At the same time, the improvement of the Smart HDR function and a triple optical zoom for the camera system on the back of the new iPhone are mentioned. The experts also assume that a previously discussed, more compact Notch contains improved Face ID sensors to make facial recognition easier and to create more space on the display.

As usual, forecasts of this kind should be viewed with some skepticism. Speculations remain from Apple always uncommented and therefore also unconfirmed. The same applies to the possible release of the iPhone 12 Pro and a larger Max version, which is expected to be considered later in the year – usually in autumn.
