Google Meet introduced for Samsung smart TVs with new UI

The strategy adopted by Google for the messaging and video calling apps was considered a mess. Over the course of previous years, Google introduced various apps for messaging and video calling. These include:

  1. Gtalk
  2. Google Hangouts
  3. Google Allo
  4. Google Duo

Quite recently, the company announced a merger comprising Google Duo and Google Meet. As of now, the new official app of Google Meet has made its way to the Samsung smart TVs.

The new version of the Google Meet app presents an optimized UI to accommodate the TV screen. Additionally, it is quite convenient to be controlled via the TV remote. In contrast to the Google Duo app which showcased a white theme, the google Meet app is based on a dark theme. The dark UI of the Google Meet app is less straining on the eyes. When a user logs in to the app, all contacts and recent calls are visible under the New Call screen. Thus, making it easier to start video calls.

The video call interface presents the following option:

  • end the call
  • enable/disable the microphone
  • turn the webcam on or off
  • open the video in a pop-up window
  • enable/disable video effects

Around four parties could be added to the group video call. The app is available on the Tizen app store Samsung. No compatible TV model has been listed as yet. But given the features, we assume that any smart Tv that works with a webcam will be compatible with it.
