iOS 16 Second Beta: Apple releases iCloud backups over LTE and 5G

Apple has released the second beta version for the upcoming iOS 16 for developers. Support for iCloud backups over LTE and 5G, previously only very limited, is now starting. Apple previewed the new capabilities and features of iOS 16 at the WWDC developer conference in early June. At the same time, the developer testing program has started the first beta for the next iOS 16 updates and is now following round 2.

Many details about the changes have not yet been leaked. even in the Developer Release Notes little information is listed for the second beta of iOS 16, including general support for iCloud backups over LTE and 5G. Previously, the function could only be used via certain providers or only via WLAN. The new developer build is numbered 20A5303i. Updates to iPadOS, tvOS, and watchOS 9 have also started. For the public beta testing phase, on the other hand, you need a little more patience. Apple had announced it would launch its public testing program in July. An exact date is not yet known.

How to join the beta program

Participation in the beta program is free and requires a one-time registration for the program beta.apple.com/sp/en/betaprogram from the respective supported device. This also applies to all beta versions that Apple is testing, so iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac, and TV. To do this, users need to enter their Apple ID and then get the update automatically through the update function.

New versions are then automatically downloaded to the device. The new version is now available to registered users as an over-the-air update. Testing of the beta versions is always at your own risk and should not be performed on the productive system. iOS 16 will start in the fall with further updates for iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. There is no exact date yet, traditionally the updates should start in September.
