Suspected attack: The Starlink ground station in Poland burned
A Starlink ground station burned in Poland. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Wola Krobowska in Masovian Voivodeship. Among other things, the authorities are investigating the suspicion that it could have been an attack.
Firefighters prevent anything worse from happening
The owner of the property where parts of the Starlink infrastructure is housed alerted emergency services late on Wednesday evening, the Polish broadcaster reported RMF FM. According to him, several antennas were on fire at the time. A power generator was also damaged by the fire. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire before it spread further. Investigators are initially focusing on the possibility of arson. According to RMF, a distribution box in particular could have been deliberately set on fire. At the same time, a technical defect cannot be completely ruled out, but it is considered a rather unlikely cause. The exact reason for the fire will be clarified as part of further investigations.
Because of the importance of the facility, the incident is being treated with particular attention by the Polish authorities. In addition to regular police forces, riot police units and officers from the voivodship police were also on site. In addition, the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the Centralne Biuro Śledcze Policji (CBŚP), a central unit for combating serious organized crime, were informed about the incident.

The ground station in Wola Krobowska is part of the infrastructure through which SpaceX’s satellite network provides its internet connections in the region. According to RMF, together with another ground station near Kaunas in Lithuania, it plays an important role in supplying large parts of Central and Eastern Europe with Starlink access. This also includes Ukraine, where the satellite service is of strategic importance in the defense against the Russian invasion. There are around a dozen white, spherical antennas on the site. The individual systems therefore have a diameter of around two meters. The area is surrounded by a metal fence. It is not clear from the information available so far whether the fire had an impact on Starlink supply in the region.
