Tapbots Announces Phoenix: A New App for the Bluesky Social Network

Tapbots, the creators of the beloved (but now defunct) Tweetbot app, has exciting plans in the works. Later this year, they’ll be launching a new app called Phoenix, designed specifically for the Bluesky social network.

Phoenix will be developed for both iPhone and Mac, alongside Tapbots’ existing app, Ivory, which supports the Mastodon social network. With Bluesky’s rising popularity, Tapbots has noticed that their user base is now split between Mastodon and Bluesky. As a result, the company has decided to expand beyond Ivory to remain sustainable.

But don’t worry—this doesn’t mean Ivory is being left behind. Tapbots has confirmed that development on the Mastodon app will continue even after Phoenix is released. While the two apps will share some features, they’ll remain separate to provide a smoother user experience. Tapbots considered building a single combo app but decided that two distinct apps would better serve their users. That said, cross-platform posting is already in the works for the future.

For those unfamiliar, Tapbots made a major shift to Ivory after Twitter (now X) stopped supporting third-party apps like Tweetbot. Ivory has since become a favorite tool for Mastodon users, and now, Phoenix aims to do the same for Bluesky. Both Bluesky and Mastodon are gaining traction as popular alternatives to Twitter/X.

Phoenix is expected to launch this summer, with a limited public alpha version arriving soon. If you’re curious to learn more, visit the Tapbots website.
