TM Roh challenges staff members to coin a fancy term for the term “smartphone”

The smartphone experience is going to change with the arrival of the Galaxy S24 series that accompanies built-in AI and LLM features. Such an approach might call for a new term. In accordance with a new report, TM Roh wants it to be something different from ‘AI Phone.’ In the past, several rumors and leaks referred to the Galaxy S24 as an AI Phone. Well, this term is in alignment with the AI Phone trademark in several markets.

According to a report shared by inews24, the President of Samsung MX (Mobile eXperience), TM Roh, has given executives and staff the order to question the definition of an “AI phone” and develop a better one. Just as the iPhone revolutionized the smartphone industry, the upcoming Galaxy S24 can do the same and give rise to a new market trend. For this reason, there should be something more than the term ‘smartphone’ to refer to the technology and user experience.

It appears that the company is not satisfied with the AI Phone term. Perhaps Samsung believes that the Galaxy S24 doesn’t fit well with other smartphones on the market. In light of this, the MX division is searching for the ideal way to characterize the Galaxy S24 in terms of the mobile evolutionary ladder. It is said that TM Roh opposes “AI Phone” for unspecified reasons. Maybe it’s too similar to the “iPhone.”

The future plans of the company will be unveiled at the upcoming Unpacked event. A new term will help users distinguish the Galaxy S24 along with its next-gen AI features. Though it’s unclear exactly how the business will reinvent smartphones, Samsung has already revealed AI Live Translate Call as its first AI feature. There will be more, and in the end, we might need to change our lexicon to reflect the possibility that regular smartphones won’t exist by the beginning of next year.
