Tweets that break Twitter’s hateful conduct policy are now marked
The social media platform Twitter has announced that tweets that violate Twitter’s Hateful Conduct Policy could be labeled. As per the report by Engadget, such tweets could even be marked for less visibility. The platform has been in a catch since the arrival of the new boss over the type of content that should be allowed on Twitter. For months, the company has tried and tested various methods. Finally, the company is now adding a label to tweets that violate hate speech policies.
Such tweets won’t be removed from the platform rather they will gain less and limited visibility. Users can gain information about a limited tweet by clicking on “Learn More” and reading the company’s policies. In case a tweet is limited by mistake, users can plea. Twitter will carry out a revision on that. It could take some time. However, Twitter makes it abundantly clear that giving feedback does not ensure a response or the restoration of a tweet.
The tweets with these labels will be less discoverable on the platform. No adverts will be displayed next to them, the company stated in its announcement. Additionally, Twitter thinks that these labels will add a “new level of transparency to enforcement actions.”
Labeling allegedly offensive content enables Twitter to uphold its commitment to free expression while reducing the spread of hostile content throughout the platform. The labels may also provide more information about Twitter’s content management guidelines. Informing users as to why their content is blocked.
Besides this, the advocacy group has made an objection to this decision. They argue that such users will remain on the platform. Previously, Twitter stated that users could be banned if they are recognized as bad actors. Well, this new policy can impact advertisers’ decisions to run ads on the platform.
Just recently, Twitter was renamed X Corp. It was done to be a part of Elon Musk X-branded companies like SpaceX and X.AI. In addition to this, Elon Musk has shared his idea of an “everything app” named “X,” which might influence Twitter’s future.
