Windows 10 Crashes Fixed By New Intel WLAN Driver Update

Intel WLAN update

Intel has fixed problems with WiFi and Bluetooth drivers that increasingly led to Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) among Windows 10 users. These errors are addressed by a new update, as are problems with Bluetooth devices that lose their connection.

In addition to bug fixes, there are a number of security-related changes. This is reported by a German blog Deskmodder. Alternatively, you can always stay up to date with the Intel Update Assistant (also found at the end of the article). Users are now strongly recommended to install the updated WLAN drivers (Intel PROSet/Wireless Software 22.50.1) and Bluetooth drivers (Intel Wireless Bluetooth 22.50.0), as they contain functional updates as well as security updates.

Issues Are Fixed

The new Intel wireless drivers fix various errors that could lead to the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). In addition, users described a bug that led to error messages occurring when transferring larger data packets.

Release Notes WLAN Driver

  • If you’re doing a large file transfer, Windows Device Manager might indicate that the wireless adapter is not working properly. The Windows system event log shows event ID 5002 and 5005
  • Occasional loss of network connectivity with Intel® Dual Band Wireless AC-8260 and AC-8265 adapters. Windows system event logging shows event ID 5002 and 5005
  • Windows Stop Errors (BSOD) related to the Intel Wireless Driver may occur

The update for Bluetooth solves problems with the connection between mobile devices, explains Intel in the release notes: “On some systems, it can happen that the Bluetooth device displays a yellow exclamation point in the device manager while a connection to a mobile device is made via PC -to-mobile connection applications is established. ” That is also the only point of the update notes. The full list of supported products and driver versions released by Intel to address these issues are provided in the new driver update release notes.
