Windows 10 Printer Blue Screen Fixed In An Update

A week ago Microsoft released the March updates on its traditional patch day, and this time it not only had the usual fixes but also a bigger problem. Because when accessing printers it crashed. Now a fix has been released.

The printer problem became known shortly after the March updates were released and may well have affected some users. The problems were mainly related to models from the manufacturers Ricoh, Xerox and Kyocera, but this also occurred with devices from other companies. The problem was recognizable by the error message “APC_INDEX_MISMATCH”, it also “only” occurred with special apps – the Redmond-based company did not disclose what those were.

Microsoft had to react quickly and did that too: At first a manual or temporary workaround was announced at the weekend, followed by a download patch or fix for the problem as reported by Neowin. The update should be available to everyone who is affected, i.e. users with Windows 10 versions 1803, 1809, 1909, 2004, 20H2 and Insiders with 21H1.

Available via Windows Update

Anyone who needs or is looking for the fix should pay a visit to Windows Update and check there for anything new. The patch should then be offered as an optional quality update. Incidentally, this fix is a cumulative update.

On the current Windows 10 versions 2004 and 20H2, this has the number KB5001567. For versions 1903 and 1909 it is KB5001566, for version 1809 it is KB5001568, and for 1803 it is KB5001565.
