Windows 11 22H2 Next Big Update Expected In May 2023

windows 11 updates

Just a few days ago we received new information about the so-called “Moments” feature updates for Windows 11. Now there are indications of the targeted release date for the Moment 3 update.

Because it looks like Microsoft will start the moment updates every two to three months. Moment 1 was released a few weeks ago and brought changes like the explorer tabs. Next up is Moment 2 coming in early 2023, probably in February. Moment 3 should then be planned by Microsoft for May 2023.

According to WalkingCat (@_h0x0d_ on Twitter), a previously fairly reliable source for Microsoft leaks, the Windows team plans to release the “Moment 3” update or “Next Windows Continuous Innovations” in May 2023. References to “Moment 3” have already been spotted in recent Windows 11 preview builds.

Complicated update scheme

Gone are the days when Microsoft had a simple and easy-to-understand system for Windows feature updates. What was initially promised as one update per year has turned into a seemingly random but steady flow of new features? With a few exceptions, innovations have started on every patch day.

The larger changes are then called Moments and are published quarterly as it now appears. So far, however, there have been no official confirmations from Microsoft about schedules or even the nature of the updates. Therefore, there is still no information about the new functions that “Moment 3” could bring with it. So we will have to wait and see what changes Microsoft will test within the Windows Insider program in the coming weeks. Even with the start of the original Windows 11 version 21H2, an annual cycle of function updates was planned.

It was only later that the decision came to go back to three years instead and provide new features in between with the so-called Moments updates.
