Xbox is getting even more expensive: Microsoft increases prices, eliminates 2 TB model

Microsoft has announced another increase in prices for its Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X gaming consoles. At the same time, the US software company announced that the top version with two terabytes of memory would be dropped.

Xbox Series S/X will be $100-$150 more expensive starting in August

The memory crisis is causing a further price increase for the Xbox. As Microsoft just announced, the prices for the models with 512 gigabytes of internal flash memory will be increased by $100 each, while the variants with one terabyte will even be $150 more expensive. The announcement was initially only made for the USA, but is expected to be announced in Europe and other regions soon.

The drastic new price increase follows an initially cautious price increase of between $20 and $70 in the USA that was implemented in October 2025. The date for the price increase in the USA is August 1, 2026. From this day onwards, the Xbox Series S will cost at least $499.99 in the United States, with the version with a terabyte of storage then costing a cool $599.99. The Xbox Series Anyone who is interested in the top version of the Xbox Series X, which comes with two terabytes of permanent storage, should hurry up.

According to Microsoft, this model will no longer be continued due to the extreme price increase for NAND flash memory and will therefore probably disappear from the market soon. It is still unclear when and to what extent Microsoft will implement the price increases for the Xbox Series S/X in Germany. Microsoft cites the memory crisis as the reason for the price increases, although it must be clear to everyone that the company itself, with its massive investments in new AI computing capacity, is one of the main causes of the shortage and the associated price explosion.
