Retro trend: The next cult game from the 2000s is getting a remaster

Agent 47 returns. The first three installments of the popular Hitman series from the 2000s are getting a comprehensive remake for modern consoles and PC. Players can look forward to improved graphics and new features.
Return of a stealth classic
In recent years, more and more remasters of cult classics from past gaming decades have come onto the market. The most well-known new editions include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Valve’s ray tracing version of Half-Life 2 and the upcoming original trilogy of the Gothic series, which will appear in addition to the remake of the first part. This illustrious group will soon be joined by the first three parts of the well-known Hitman series. Fans can expect graphically enhanced versions of the stealth classics from the 2000s as part of a remaster that has now been announced. The new edition brings the origins of the contract killer Agent 47 up to date with the latest technology, while retaining the original feel of the game. The package includes the titles Hitman: Codename 47, Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman: Contracts. The collection is scheduled to be published in 2027. The intended platforms are the PC (Steam), the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S.
Technology and new functions
Like the developer studio Saber Interactive in his announcement announced, the games will be extensively revised. The developers promise improved character models, high-resolution textures and more detailed environments. Previous flat 2D elements in the backgrounds will give way to fully modeled 3D objects.


A new photo mode also makes it possible to capture what is happening at any time. A bonus for nostalgics is the announced function of the remaster to switch seamlessly between the new look and the original graphics at the push of a button. Overall, the controls and menu navigation should also be much more intuitive than before. The new edition brings back the origins of the series. Hitman: Codename 47 was first released exclusively for the PC in 2000. The first part of the series laid the foundation for the brand’s success and introduced the iconic piano string. Each mission offers different solutions that require a tactical approach.
Experienced developers
Saber Interactive brings a wealth of experience to the project. The team has already been responsible for new editions of Tomb Raider, which Prime subscribers can currently secure for free via Amazon’s gaming service Luna. When working on Hitman, the developers rely on proven tools to modernize the source code of the old games. For the more distant future, the series creators at IO Interactive are also planning a permanent return of their famous Agent 47 as part of completely new adventures. Until then, the current title Hitman: World of Assassination will continue to be updated with new content in order to shorten the time until the remaster is released.
