Galaxy S27: Codenames & camera details of the new top smartphones
Samsung is planning four high-end smartphones for the Galaxy S27 series, expanding the line-up to include another model. Databases already reveal the code names of the devices and provide initial details about the camera equipment.
Two ‘normal’ and two high-end models planned
Samsung is of course preparing the launch of the Galaxy S27 series for the beginning of 2027 after the launch of its new foldable smartphones. Based on import/export databases, the first details about the new devices in the new series of high-end smartphones, which have been expanded to four models, can already be compiled. First of all, the databases that are freely accessible online tell us that Samsung is planning four models. A similarly equipped second high-end model will be positioned below the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra, which has already been referred to as the “Galaxy S27 Pro” in previous reports. The Koreans are adapting Apple’s strategy, in which the series of top smartphones is composed of two well-equipped upper-class devices and two high-end models.
Codename ‘Next Miracle’
The code name of the new model series is apparently “Next Miracle” or “New Miracle”, because the new S27 models appear in the databases under the abbreviations “NM1”, “NM2”, “NM3” and “NM4”, although the “real name” S27 is sometimes used in connection with the code names.
The camera equipment, on which initial information can be compiled, makes the ranking in the lineup easy to understand. The “NM4” is the top model, which will ultimately appear as the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The equipment is correspondingly good, because Samsung is again using a combination of four cameras, although there is no information about the main camera yet.
Sony supplies sensors for Samsung’s cameras
For the strong second zoom camera of the Galaxy S27 Ultra “NM4” there is talk of a fivefold optical magnification, with another 50 megapixel sensor being installed. There is also a 50-megapixel camera for ultra-wide-angle shots, which has a new sensor. This is the Sony IMX855, which also performs the same tasks in the just-launched Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Sony IMX855 also appears again in the Galaxy S27 “Pro” with the code name “NM3” and is also said to enable an ultra-wide-angle camera with 50 megapixel resolution. The zoom camera in this model will also offer 50 megapixel resolution using the same sensor as in the S27 Ultra, although it is still unclear how strong the optical magnification will be here. In addition, at least in the S27 Ultra, there is also another zoom sensor whose magnification and resolution are not yet publicly available. It is also unclear whether the S27 Pro also has a second zoom camera, although we would classify this as unlikely.
New front camera with 16 megapixels, OIS & autofocus
The two new top models of the Galaxy S27 series also each receive a new front camera with 16 megapixel resolution, which offers a sensor manufactured by Samsung with autofocus support. With their autofocus, the cameras clearly stand out from the competition, as the selfie camera rarely has such a function, even on high-end smartphones. This was already the case more often with Samsung’s older flagship devices. But there also seems to be another special feature. The databases suggest that the front camera of the Galaxy S27 Pro “NM3” could have an optical image stabilizer.
New sensors for Galaxy S27 & Galaxy S27 Plus
Some information can already be gathered about the cameras of the two “normal” Galaxy S27 models in the form of the basic model and the “Plus” version. These models have practically identical camera equipment, each consisting of a main camera with 50 megapixel resolution and optical image stabilizer, an ultra-wide-angle camera with 12 megapixel sensor and a zoom camera with unknown resolution and magnification. Overall, Samsung apparently wants to use new camera sensors in several places in its new S27 series, internally called “New Miracle” or “Next Miracle”, in order to further increase the image quality and performance. What remains unclear is how the main cameras of the two top models should be designed.
Apparently all variants are increasingly relying on the use of camera sensors from the Japanese Sony company. The main cameras of the two cheaper models are equipped with Sony sensors, while other Sony sensors such as the IMX855 are also used in the top models. The colleagues of GalaxyClub from the Netherlands were also able to find relevant information. The new Galaxy S27 series from Samsung will probably be introduced again at the beginning of next year.
