Samsung’s Galaxy S22 smartphones are among the fastest Android smartphones, but Apple’s mobile processor is still the fastest in the world.
Geekbench 5 benchmark tests showed by PCmag that the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s Snapdragon 8 Gen1 processor scored 3,433, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s A15 Bionic chip scored 4,647. These results show that the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s CPU performance is 35% better than the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
All Galaxy S22 models in the United States are equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, but models in Europe have the Exynos 2200 chip. Geekbench 5 Exynos 2200 model results still show multi-core scores in the mid-3,000s. However, iPhone 13 models continue to perform well.
PCMag ran Geekbench ML to test machine learning performance. The iPhone 13 Pro Max scored 948. This is more than twice the score of the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 448. Apple’s new A15 chip has a 16-core Neural Engine that can perform 15.8 trillion operations per second for machine learning tasks, such as Siri processing on-device.
Apple will try to increase its performance lead with an even faster A16 processor for the iPhone 14 series later in the year.
