HTC introduces Wildfire E3 Lite with Unisoc chipset
HTC abbreviates for High Tech Computer Corporation. It is a Taiwanese consumer electronics company founded in 1997. The journey of HTC started off as an original design manufacturer and unique equipment creator that designed and produced laptop computers. HTC began introducing smartphones based on Windows Mobile. Later on, the company became a co-founding member of the Open Handset Alliance. OHA is a group of handset manufacturers and mobile network operators that are devoted to the development of Android OS. Given this perspective, the company introduced its first smartphone based on Android with the branding HTC Dream. Interestingly, HTC Dream was marketed by T-Mobile and the twist was that T-Mobile marketed it as the T-Mobile G1.
By the Q3 of 2011, HTC was successful in becoming the largest vendor of smartphones in the US. However, the competitive environment given the presence of Apple and Samsung diluted HTC’s market share. By April 2015, it dropped to just 7.2% due to the reason that the company was experiencing repeated net losses. It was in 2016 when the company decided to expand its product profile besides smartphones. it collaborated with Valve and introduced HTC Vive, a virtual reality platform. Later on, the company partnered with Google and sold around half of its design and workforce to Google for its Pixel smartphones. furthermore, the company also sold its smartphone-related intellectual property rights to Google for US$1.1 billion.
After this brief introduction, we now know that HTC is not making smartphones now. Rather it has licensed its brand to interested manufacturers. As a result of this strategy, a smartphone named Wildfire E3 Lite has just been announced.
