Microsoft lures Apple users with a $1,000 trade-in bonus

Microsoft is offering Surface Laptop Ultra buyers up to $1,000 in cash back on top of the device’s value when they trade in a MacBook Pro. The campaign under the slogan “Break up with your MacBook” is intended to encourage Apple users to switch.
$1,000 exchange bonus
The promotion runs until November 23, 2026. The promotion is currently only valid in the Microsoft online stores in the US and Canada not in EU. Purchase and trade-in registration with proof of purchase must be made during this period. One participation per customer is permitted. The actual savings of the current promotion are determined by the exchange value and the approved bonus. The purchase price must first be paid in full.
Premium in addition to the device value
The total payout depends, among other things, on the model and condition of the MacBook Pro as well as the Surface purchased. Not all participants receive the maximum reward of $1,000. Customers must first purchase an eligible Surface Laptop Ultra and register the trade-in with proof of purchase. The payment will be made after receipt and inspection of the MacBook by Microsoft’s partner Teladvance. There is no provision for a deduction from the purchase price at checkout. For pre-orders, Microsoft recommends that you only register the trade-in after the new device has been shipped and the payment method on file has been charged. The old device must be sent within 15 days of registering online.
Requirements for the old device
The notebook must function completely and can also be operated without a power supply connected. Devices with a cracked display, liquid damage or missing components are excluded. Password protection must be removed. The original charger and accessories must be included. The final exchange value will be determined after verification.
Surface Laptop Ultra starting at around $2,600
The Surface Laptop Ultra is already available for pre-order. Delivery on October 16, 2026. The US starting price is 2,599.99 dollars, in Germany Microsoft is offering the new Surface Ultra from 2,899 euros. The notebook uses the Nvidia RTX Spark platform with N1X processor and RTX graphics. It offers up to 128GB of shared memory and a mini LED display. The connectivity includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, an SD card reader, a headphone jack and a magnetic USB-C charging port.
Exchange campaigns have a tradition
Microsoft has been wooing Apple customers with trade-in offers for years. Back in 2014, the company offered MacBook Air owners up to $650 credit for their old device when they purchased a Surface Pro 3.
