Vivo announces its second-gen foldable: Vivo X Fold 2
The game is on for foldable smartphones. Various Chinese companies have introduced their foldable devices. It indicates that the competition is growing in this particular segment. Well, perhaps not actually. Since most Chinese companies do not market their products in the international market. A new report indicates that Vivo has announced its second-gen foldable: Vivo X Fold 2. Briefly, it is the third foldable device by the company. But the Vivo X Fold+ is considered a mid-range device.
The company has introduced several changes and improvements with the Vivo X Fold 2. One of the significant changes is the weight of the device. It is a large foldable phone that weighs around 278 grams in contrast to the previous device which weighed 311 grams. As of now, the company has introduced the flagship in China, but there is no information about this global debut. The device appears similar to the Vivo X90 series that has been announced recently.
The smartphone is provided with vegan leather on the back. It accompanies a circular camera island on the rear. The camera island included the ZEISS optics. The frame of the device is made out of metal and it folds flat. The Vivo X Fold 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SOC. It includes 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS 4.0 flash storage.
Display of Vivo X Fold 2
The main display is a QHD+ (2160 x 1916) Samsung E6 AMOLED panel. It measures 8.03 inches. It is an LPTO display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It supports HDR10+ while providing 1,800 nits of brightness at its peak. The second display is a fullHD+ (2520 x 1080) unit. It is a 6.53 inches panel. It has the same E6 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. In contrast, the second panel provides 1,600 nits of brightness at its peak.
Battery and charging capacities
The device is powered by a 4,800mAh battery. The Vivo X Fold 2 supports 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. It also includes reverse wireless charging.
The device comes with Android 13 and OriginOS 3 in China. However, the device could include a Vivo’s Funtouch OS on top of it in case it launches globally. It holds two in-display fingerprint scanners (ultrasonic) one for each of the device’s displays. The device has two SIM card slots. It supports 5G connectivity (SA/NSA) and Bluetooth 5.3.
Camera details of the device
On the rear, the Vivo X Fold 2 consist of a 50MP main camera (Sony’s IMX866 sensor, f/1.75 aperture, OIS, ZEISS T* coating, V2 chip). It is accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide camera (Sony’s IMX633 sensor, 108-degree FoV, f/2.0 aperture) on the back. A12MP portrait telephoto unit (f/1.98 aperture) can also be found on the backside. On both displays, a single 16MP selfie camera (f/2.45 aperture) can b found.
The device measures 161.29 x 143.43 x 5.95mm when unfolded. It measures 161.29 x 73.42 x 12.9mm when folded. These measurements are for the black model. In contrast, the red and blue models are thick.
Color options and pricing details
The Vivo X Fold 2 comes in three color options: Shadow Black, China Red, and Azure Blue colors. In China, the device is available for CNY8,999 ($1,380) and CNY9,999 ($1,455). Both models are provided with 12GB of RAM. However, their storage units are different (256GB and 512GB).
