Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.160 is here

After a short time of testing in the Dev Channel, Microsoft is taking the next step with Windows 11 22H2. Insider Preview Build 22621.160 is now available in the beta channel. Most of all, they probably want more feedback on the File Explorer tabs.

With quick steps to test in the beta channel

On June 9, Microsoft introduced Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25136, which provides the Dev Channel with all kinds of innovations – as usual, we’ve informed you about all the changes. The following post follows just four days later in the Windows blog: Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.160 will be published and is intended for all participants in the beta channel. With KB5014770, the version number makes the step from 22621.1 to 22621.160.

The focal point of the update is the long-awaited tweaks to File Explorer, which affect both navigation and user interface — and it was precisely in this form that the Dev Channel had only recently arrived. As a reminder, Microsoft is trying to include a tab view in the title bar.

However, the limitation already in place in the dev release remains: “We just started rolling out this feature, so it’s not yet available to all Insiders in the beta channel,” according to the developers of Build 22621.160. For the current release, Microsoft only points to one known bug, which is also quite mild. As a result, the “up arrow” in the File Explorer tabs is misaligned. A fix is promised in a future update.

Windows 11 22H2 long gone

Until the official release of Windows 11 22H2, which is expected to be generally available in September, Microsoft still has plenty of time to use its insider channels as a testing ground. The company is particularly careful with the Explorer tabs. “We want to follow the feedback and see how it goes before we spread it out to everyone,” the developers said.
