All You Need To Know About New Samsung 870 EVO Series

Samsung 870 EVO SSD

South Korean electronics giant Samsung will shortly be launching a new edition of its affordable SATA III SSDs in the 2.5-inch form factor. We now have all the important technical data for the new Samsung 870 EVO SSD series.

As already reported, the Samsung SSD 870 EVO will be launched in versions with 250 or 500 gigabytes and with one, two or four terabytes. In terms of maximum read and write speeds, the new SSDs are only slightly faster than their predecessor models and reach 560 megabytes per second for reading and 530 megabytes per second for writing.

It was still open which exact technical details the Samsung 870 EVO SSDs offer, which we want to answer here. According to an official datasheet from the manufacturer available to us, the new Solid State Drives use Samsung V-NAND 3-bit MLC memory instead of the TLC memory used in the previous Samsung 860 EVO.

To use the flash memory quickly, Samsung uses 512 megabytes (250 and 500 GB models), one gigabyte (1 TB version), two gigabytes (2 TB version) or even four gigabytes, depending on the model LPDDR4 RAM (4 TB version). The fast LPDDR4 memory serves as a cache and should help to keep the high maximum speeds for reading and writing as long as possible.

Samsung has also given the SSD 870 EVO the new Samsung MKX controller, although it remains to be seen which advantages this offers compared to the predecessor MJX. As before, Samsung wants to offer a service life of up to 2400 TBW (Terabytes Written) and a maximum five-year guarantee.

Concrete information on the prices is currently pending, but it should start at well below 50 euros, with the upper end of the price range being around 500 euros.
