Tesla plans a new plant in Shanghai to double the production to 2 million cars

According to an insider report, the location of the next Tesla factory has been determined. It is rumored that Tesla will build a new factory next to the existing Gigafactory in Shanghai. This should double production in China alone to two million cars. Tesla currently operates two main factories that are in full production, namely Tesla Fremont and the Gigafactory Shanghai.

The Gigafactory Texas and the Gigafactory Berlin are also under construction and are slowly ramping up production. These four locations alone are likely to increase Tesla’s production capacity to more than three million vehicles per year by the end of next year. The company also recently confirmed that it would announce a new location for a factory by the end of this year. This location can be noisy the Reuters news agency, probably back in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone.

Expansion plans

Tesla recently confirmed that it plans additional investments in its existing Gigafactory Shanghai to increase production to one million units per year. But that’s by no means all Tesla is planning in China. The Shanghai location is particularly interesting for Tesla because it is not only a major growth market but also an important export center.

The news agency’s report about the Gigafactory Shanghai is therefore not surprising: Tesla will soon start building a new factory next to the Gigafactory Shanghai, according to Reuters, to double production capacity to two million cars per year. According to news agency sources, Tesla plans to start construction on a new factory in Shanghai next month. This rumor was confirmed to Reuters by two people familiar with the case.
